Lake District Tourist Guide - Local Information

Keswick outdoors

Keswick is full of outdoor activities and adventures that need to be discovered by you.

There's the Keswick adventure centre that must be explored by you it has all sorts of activities like Ghyll scrambling:- Ghyll scrambling has a lot of names, Gill scrambling, Gorge Scrambling and Cannoning. Despite the word 'Scrambling' usually meaning to 'go up' this term means up or down in Ghyll Scrambling - Down being the biggest adrenaline rush. And only a 5 minute drive from our stores to Stone croft Ghyll.

Via Ferrata: - this is originally from Italy and It is an amazing journey across the imposing Honister Crag using fixed iron footholds and handholds. You will cross Burma Bridges and climb sheer cliff faces - on rungs and even a Cargo Net!! - Safe in the knowledge you are securely joined to the mountain by a strong safety cable! A truly unforgettable experience.

Rock Climbing: - The popularity of rock climbing has been growing for the last few years and indoor climbing walls are springing up close to most people. Rock climbing's profile has become huge, and is being further enhanced with increased TV coverage. As the sport has rapidly evolved it has brought new techniques and skills to the rock climber, making it safer and more accessible.

Abseiling:- Keswick Adventure Centre hosts some incredible abseils throughout the Borrowdale Valley. Our most spectacular is almost 100 feet above the ground at Woden's Face near to the Bowderstone.

Mountain Biking;- You may be an experienced MTB rider or complete novice, either way we can give you a session to remember. We can easily add some uphill and speedy downhill sections for the more adrenaline thirsty client, and even introduce you to the new trails in Winlatter Forest.

Mountain Walking;-A super way to experience all that the Lakes has to offer at a pace to suit you. Armed with some sturdy boots and a rucksack with your essentials - a packed lunch, a drink and some waterproofs (it is the Lakes after all!), your guide will navigate you to your chosen destination. From our back door you will quickly reach the summit of Latrigg and a little further onto Skiddaw or even Blencathra.

Canoeing:-This is one of Keswick's most popular activities. After putting on your buoyancy aid and playing some little warm-up games on the shores of Derwentwater, you will be shown how to hold your paddle in the correct manner, sit in your canoe and steer your craft in the direction that you wish to go.

Zip Line:- Zip wire or zip slide! We will consider any venue for running a zip line for you. See our 'Gallery' to see what we have been upto! Our new crane system means that we are able to run a zipline in an area that has no tall structures to run from - not just in and around Keswick all over the place.

In Keswick there are a number of places where you can camp or caravan, there are also a few in Keswick; here you can go on a caravanning holiday in a 7 star caravan or a normal average one also tents are available for hire of all sizes.
