Hawkshead is a charming village in the heart of the Lake District National Park. In the beautiful vale of Esthwaite, Hawkshead appears initially as a higgledy cluster of whitewashed houses. It is within easy reach of Sawrey, Near and Far, for Beatrix Potters house, Ambleside, Grizedale, Langdale, Coniston and the cross-Windermere car ferry. Self catering accommodation is available both in the pedestrianised village centre and on the outskirts of Hawkshead and the surrounding countryside. There is a holiday rental agency based in the village square that has over 50 cottages on its books. Others are let individually by their owners or by other cottage agencies. The self catering properties include renovated old cottages, farm building conversions and larger houses either rented to bigger groups or divided into a number of contemporary holiday apartments.
