Coniston Holiday Cottages

The delightful village of Coniston can be found just north west of Coniston Water, west of Grizedale Forest and at the foot of Coniston Old Man fell. There are enough shops, restaurants and cafes to give the village a relaxed peaceful ambience. It is popular with walkers, climbers and cyclists and has the additional benefit of Coniston Water for aficionados of water sports. Brantwood on the shores of Coniston Water was the home of John Ruskin, poet and social critic. The Ruskin Museum presents local history including the tragic story of Donald Campbells world water speed record attempt in 1967. Both places are worth the visit. Another attraction is the Victorian steam yacht Gondola that cruises the Water from April to October. There are plenty of Coniston holiday cottages, houses and apartments offering self catering accommodation in the Coniston, Coniston Water and Hawkshead area of the Southern Lakes. Cottages in Coniston village are mostly small, with beds for two or four people, but larger houses, apartments and converted buildings are also available to rent in the wider area.
